ABOUT

"Nuno Malo’s brooding score steadily darkens as the danger mounts, shifting into mournful solemnity in the concluding scenes."

- David Rooney , The Hollywood Reporter

"Nuno Malo's music is serious and not terribly hopeful. Quiet, in the background, it broods as the man and the boy begin an odyssey around Baltimore"

- Roger Ebert, Roger Ebert

"this beauty I find in this score shocked me. I wasn’t expecting anything like this. Even after that wonderful opening cue, the score continues to impress me time and time again. This score will stick with me. The fact is that in time it will compete with the best scores of 2010 including The Last Airbender, Inception, Tron: Legacy and How To Train Your Dragon. "

- Jørn Tillnes, www.soundtrackgeek.com

"Malo’s music is rich, melodic and quite spectacularly beautiful.  The main theme, “Lament: Fado Dos Meus Erros”, is a ravishing orchestral masterpiece."

- James Southall, http://www.movie-wave.net

"Nuno Malo has been consistently impressive with everything I’ve heard from him; LUV is a long way away from the orchestral elegance I would associate with the composer but it’s no less impressive than the rest of his work"

- James Southall, http://www.movie-wave.net

Nuno Malo has scored over 25 feature films both in the US and in Europe. In 2011, Nuno was awarded Breakout Composer of the Year 2010 at the prestigious IFMCA Awards, where he was also nominated for Best Original Score for a Drama Film with his score for ‘Amalia’ (alongside the scores for ‘The King’s Speech,’ ‘Black Swan,’ ‘True Grit’ and ‘Karate Kid’). Mr. Malo’s score for ‘LUV’ was nominated for Best Score for a Feature Film at the Hollywood Music In Media Awards 2012 (next to such scores as ‘Lincoln,’ ‘Life of Pi,’ ‘Skyfall,’ ‘The Master,’ ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘Rise of The Guardians’). In 2014 he was again nominated for another IFMCA for his score for "No God, No Master" by Terry Green, alongside "Inherent Vice" by Jonny Greenwood, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I, The Maze Runner and The Monkey King.

Both his scores for ‘LUV’ and for ‘No God, No Master’ were in the pre-selected list of Original Scores in Contention for the Oscars.

He has been nominated for 4 "Sophia" awards for Best Music for Film, by the Portuguese Academy of Cinema (in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018)

“LUV” directed by Sheldon Candis, was nominated for the grand jury prize at Sundance, and was bought at Sundance by BET channel for US distribution in Cinemas and TV.

He has also composed music for commercials both in Europe and the US. He also contributed with string arrangements for the latest 2 albums of American Artist J Cole.

Nuno is a multi-instrumentalist, and performs a multitude of instruments on his scores.

"In No God No Master, Nuno Malo actually achieves that ideal that all film composers should strive to attain; he makes his film better than it would have been, had his score not been there. "

- Jon Broxton, www.moviemusicuk.us

"Malo’s talent for crafting melodies of emotional weight which, despite their beauty, never come across as maudlin or manipulative is impressive."

- Jon Broxton, www.moviemusicuk.us

"With a strong romantic element encompassing strained emotions of longing and no small amount of heartache....This is impressive, grown-up film music."

- James Southall, http://www.movie-wave.net
